Irish weather forecast: Bad news for hay fever sufferers as pollen count set to soar in parts of the country today

Hay fever sufferers will be reaching for a tissue as pollen counts are set to soar.

Met Eireann have warned that pollen levels will reach "high to very high" levels in parts of the country due to the warm weather.

Those living in Ulster and Leinster will be most affected with medium counts expected in Munster and Connacht.

Pollen counts will be high in Leinster today, medium tomorrow and will hit high status again on Thursday.

Meanwhile, those living in Ulster will have two days of misery with high counts today and tomorrow and medium levels on Thursday.

A forecaster said: "The pollen risk will be high for grass pollen in eastern and south-eastern areas and more moderate due to showers in the West.

"Weed pollen will also be airborne with a significant risk to some sufferers.

"The tree pollen risk is currently low. Lime tree pollen will be airborne later in June."

The Met Eireann expert went on to say that warm dry conditions are contributing to high pollen levels.

They said: "The risk will be high to very high when temperatures are in the high teens or above.

"Nettle, dock and plantain will be airborne in significant amounts, with a high risk on warm, dry sunny days."
