Irish Water issue updated interactive map of areas affected by boil water notice

Irish Water have released an updated interactive map after a Boil water notice was issued for more than 600,000 people in parts of Dublin, Kildare and Meath.

The warning has been issued for customers served by the Leixlip Water Treatment plant, including homes in parts of Fingal, Dublin City Council, South Dublin County Council, parts of Kildare and Dunboyne in Meath.

It comes as a result of issues with the disinfectant process at the plant, meaning the water may not be safe to drink.

The notice means water must be boiled before drinking it, when used for the preparation of salads and similar foods, for the brushing of teeth and for the making of ice.

Experts advised that water can be safely used for personal hygiene, bathing and flushing of toilets.

Customers in the affected areas should bring water to a vigorous, rolling boil, before allowing it to cool. It can then be stored in a refrigerator or other cool place.

It is not safe to drink water coming from the hot tap, or that has been filtered using domestic water filters.

Infant feeds should be prepared with water that has been brought to the boil once and then cooled. Parents should not use water that has been re-boiled several times, and extra care should be taken to ensure babies do not swallow bath water while bathing.

Experts also noted that if bottled water is being used to prepare baby food, it may have a high sodium content. Check the label, and if the level of sodium exceeds 200mg per litre, it is advisable to use a different type of bottled water.

And Irish Water have now released a map of the areas covered by the warning, which can be found HERE.
