Irish viewers fume after Sky Sports presenter says Katie Taylor is 'Team GB'

Irish fans watching TV coverage of Katie Taylor's clash with Delfine Persoon were left fuming when presenter Anna Woolhouse asked Anthony Joshua about his 'Team GB team-mate'.

The Sky Sports presenter was asking heavyweight champion Joshua about Taylor's chances during the build-up to tonight's rematch, when she said: "What do you reckon then Anthony, your fellow 2012 Team GB Olympian Katie Taylor, will it be repeat or revenge?"

Irish ace Taylor famously captured Olympic gold for her country at the 2012 London Olympics - but Woolhouse appeared to be confused over which nation she represented and later apologised for the mistake.

Viewers took to social media to bemoan the gaffe as the Bray fighter took to the ring.

Boxer Tyrone McKenna tweeted: "Katie Taylor was never team GB Anna woodhouse...Britain would claim anything (laughing emojis) yous have your own queen dont try and steal ours."

Another Twitter user said: "Just so you know, irelands katie taylor was not a team mate of Anthony Joshua on the GB Olympic team....shes our hero..please dont try and steal her."

Another commented: "The English really have the AUDACITY to claim Katie Taylor is team GB."

And another Twitter commenter fumed: "Katie Taylor: Calls herself Irish, from Wicklow, walks out with an Irish flag for every fight, represented Ireland in the Olympics...TWICE.

"Sky Sports: Katie Taylor the team GB Olympian. Can something be done to get them to stop? Why does British media love claiming Irish celebs."
