Irish Twitter has unilaterally adopted Friends star Matt LeLanc as one of their own after his appearance at the Friends reunion radiated pure Irish uncle energy.
LeBlanc rocked up at the reunion in his best striped shirt. The silver fox even had his hair gelled into a nice little quiff. Add to this a cheeky smile and a pair of folded arms and, well, Bob’s Joey’s your uncle.
Just seeing LeBlanc on-screen gave plenty of people vivid flashbacks of being pestered as to whether they had a girlfriend/boyfriend, and always having to worry about what politically incorrect subject would be brought up over Christmas lunch.
Soon enough, the memes (and the mems) came rolling in, and they’re truly grand.
Matt LeBlanc tearfully: But I’m an Actor! I live in Los Angeles!
The People of Ireland: No. Your name is Paudie. You live in Roscommon. You love Pints and GAA and you’re everyone’s uncle now.

Never has a childhood of growing up in rural Ireland better prepared me for something more than it’s prepared me for this Matt LeBlanc being your uncle meme

Matt LeBlanc is Irish, I don’t want to see any other nation trying to claim him, he’s from Tullamore, he drinks milk with his dinner

LeBlanc, as his name suggests, is of French Canadian and, as Joey’s strong Italian energy confirms, Italian ancestry.
The man likely doesn’t have a drop of Irish blood in him. And yet, he has now emerged as the Irish uncle to rule over all Irish uncles.
Out of all the weird takeaways from the Friends reunion, this is by far the most wholesome.
Let’s hope it’s the most enduring, too.
