Irish tourists hoping to holiday in Spain will have to pass three tests before entering

Irish tourists planning on heading to Spain later this year will have to pass three checks in line with coronavirus guidelines.

Non-essential travel for Irish people still isn't permitted but many are gearing up for a late summer holiday when restrictions are eased.

And in Irish tourists' favourite holiday destination, you'll have to pass stringent tests upon arriving in the country.

Firstly, all tourists arriving in the airports will have to fill out a health questionnaire on whether you have had symptoms, plus much more.

Then health officers will take your temperature to see if you appear to be healthy or could be carrying the virus.

After this, a visual check will be carried out with anyone visibly coughing and spluttering likely to raise alarm with officials.

Two Health Technicians, a Professional from the Health & Care Management company, GSAIB, a Red Cross Nurse and a Public Health Coordinator are present at every tourist entry point on the Canary Islands to carry out these checks.

Holiday air bridges are to be established which would allow Irish tourists to travel to certain countries around Europe.

With travel seen as a big risk in terms of spreading the virus - EU countries hope to allow a flow between countries with similar coronavirus records.

Transport Minister Shane Ross has said the Government is looking into the idea but which countries Ireland will link up with has not yet been decided.
