An Irish tourist has tragically died after suffering a suspected heart attack in the sea at a Costa del Sol beach.
The 69-year-old woman was pronounced dead around midday on Tuesday after being brought out of the water.
The incident happened at popular Las Gaviotas beach in Benalmadena, where a British tourist also drowned just last month.
Police sources confirmed the dead woman was an Irish holidaymaker.
It is not clear if she was on the beach on her own or with friends or family.
The results of autopsies are rarely released in Spain.
But investigators said everything was pointing to the woman’s death being the result of a health problem, possibly a heart attack, rather than a drowning.
The tragedy is the third death on the beach since the start of July.
On July 15, a man died after being rescued from the sea when he got into difficulties in the water.
Efforts to revive him on the shoreline failed.
On July 1 Brit Ben Lloyd, 33, passed away at the same beach.
The barman, from Harlow in Essex, was dragged out to sea after going for an evening swim.
His family described him as “an amazing man with the kindest of hearts.”
A crowdfunding page was set up by his sister Gemma to help bring his body home.
Levi Ripley, one of Ben’s gold friends, said: “Ben was a gorgeous, kind, caring guy. Such a great loss.”
The latest holidaymaker to die at the beach has not yet been named.
It is not known where in Ireland the tragic woman is from.
