Irish tot fighting for life after seizure while on holidays in Canary Islands

A two-year-old is in a critical condition after taking a seizure while on holidays with his family in the Canary Islands.

Little Jaiden Potter, from Co Down, dropped to the ground in his family hotel room and stopped breathing - when his father's instincts kicked in to carry out CPR while waiting on an ambulance.

The youngster was airlifted to the nearest hospital after beginning to bleed from his nose and mouth, Belfast Live reports.

Michael Potter, Jaiden's uncle, has set up a Go Fund Me  to help his brother with the unexpected costs.

He said that he feels "helpless" knowing his family are so far away from home.

He said: "My brother Derek and his wife and Jaiden lived in England for a while and when they were there Jaiden did take fits before.

"When they came home to Northern Ireland he fitted once more but the hospital were unable to do anything because he is still so young.

"Everything has been going well the last few months but today he started fitting while on holidays and he wasn't breathing.

"An air ambulance then arrived and took him to the nearest hospital after working on him for 40 minutes.

"By the time he got to the hospital he was in a critical condition so was placed in ICU and he's still there now. It's heartbreaking."

Michael is now appealing to his  local community  to help with a  Go Fund Me page  set up to help the young family abroad with the travel costs back and forth to the hospital.

The Belfast taxi driver has been 'crying for hours and hours' at the thought of his nephew in ICU in a foreign country.

He said: "I feel completely helpless. I am so far away from them and can't do anything to help.

"Jaiden's mummy and daddy are 45 minutes away from the hospital and its 120 euros to get there from their resort.

"They are having to get taxis back and fourth to the hospital so I just want to help them out.

"They have brought a certain amount of money with them for their holiday, so these added extra costs are difficult for them.

"Derek's wife is pregnant with their third child so obviously she is under a lot of stress.

"I just want to help them out with the costs as much as possible because I am not able to be physically there, I want to help from home."
