Irish teenage girl 'brought to hospital with serious injuries after fall in Spain'

An Irish teenager was brought to hospital with serious injuries after a fall in Spain, it has been reported.

The 16-year-old fell from a wall in the city of Granada, in southern Spain.

It is believed that the Irish teen had facial and head injuries when she fell around five metres last Friday on the outskirts of the city in Andalucia, the city's local newspaper Ideal reports.

She is thought to attend secondary school in Dublin.

The newspaper reported that city’s councillor for public safety had confirmed the Irish teen was with pals and coming back from a ‘botellón’ – Spanish phrase for when people come together in the street to socialise.

The incident happened near the well known Fuente del Avellano (Avellano fountain) at around 10pm on Friday night when she fell from a high wall.

She was attended to by paramedics at the scene before being taken to intensive care unit at the city’s Hospital de Neurotraumatología (neurotrauma), according to the report.

The 16-year-old is in a serious condition with facial and head injuries, it reported.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs told the Irish times it was “aware of the case and providing consular assistance”.

Police in the area are carrying out an investigation.
