Irish teen left in a coma in Spain as family suffer heartbreaking double tragedy

Almost €70,000 has been raised for an 18-year-old Irishman who is in an induced coma in Spain.

Jamie Doyle, from Banbridge in Co Down, had travelled to Lanzarote recently with his mum and dad when he became unwell.

The young man, a "keen boxer and a very talented barber", was airlifted to hospital on the neighbouring island of Gran Canaria after he suffered a severe headache and subsequently collapsed.

He underwent two brain surgeries within 48 hours last weekend and will now be in an induced coma for the next four to six weeks because of swelling on his brain.

The terrible incident came just before Jamie's family suffered a second devastating tragedy earlier this week.

The Doyles were left heartbroken after the sudden death of the newest addition to the family.

Jamie's brother Dominic lost his newborn child and is mourning the loss without his parents as they are staying in Spain.

The brothers' cousin Sara has launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to "help save Jamie's life".

She wrote: "Our cousin Jamie is currently in a hospital in Spain in an induced coma for 4-6 weeks due to swelling on his brain.

"Jamie is only 18 years old with his whole life ahead of him. He is a keen boxer and a very talented barber.

"Thankfully his mum and dad Mary and Stephen are with him but need your help with the amounting surgery costs.

"Jamie has gone through 2 surgeries on his brain so far within the last 48 hours.

"Early on this week his family suffered a devastating loss of their newborn grandchild. Obviously they cannot be at home to support their other son Dominic through this devastating time.

"What this family are going through is unimaginable so please if you can help in raising some well needed funds to cover the cost of their beloved son's medical bills and their accommodation in the coming months it will be so much appreciated by Jamie’s family.

"We are all praying for Jamie and hope he pulls through."

The campaign has raised over £58,000 (almost €69,000) to date of its £100,000 goal.
