Irish teen dead and two pals fight for their lives after horror crash in Australia

An Irish teen has lost his life in a horror car crash in Australia and two of his pals are fighting for their lives in hospital.

The 18-year-old was thrown from a car in Cobden, about three hours from Melbourne in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He died when the vehicle he was travelling in and a second vehicle collided shortly before 1.30am at the intersection of Bond Street and Cross Forest Road in Cobden near Warrnambool.

He was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

His two pals - also Irish and aged 30 and 21, who were travelling in the same car, sustained serious injuries.

They were rushed to Warnambool Hospital where their condition has been described as serious.

All three men had been working in the area at the time.

The female driver of the second car was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Detectives from the major crash investigations unit will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Several people took to social media to offer condolences to the teen’s family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

One person wrote: “Yet another young life lost way too soon. RIP. Condolences to his family, friends and emergency services that attended,” while another wrote: “My heart absolutely breaks at this. Every parent's worst fears. Condolences to all concerned and speedy recovery to the injured.”
