Irish stores respond as customers ask when Lidl shoes costing €15 will arrive after selling out in one country

Irish customers could get their hands on Lidl brand shoes this side of Christmas after one European country went crazy for them.

The supermarket's shoes went on sale for just €15 in Finland and sold it after a social media frenzy earlier this year.

Now customers in other countries around the world are asking when will they be able to get their hands on them.

And Lidl Ireland have hinted that they will be available before Christmas for Irish customers.

A spokesperson said: "You asked. We listened! Our buyers are on the phones now trying to get their hands on stock.

"No promises, but we'll do our best to make your dreams come true! It might be too early for the C word but we get the impressions some of you wouldn't mind finding these under the tree."

The colourful Lidl shoes sparked huge queues and massed scrambles when they went on sale, social distancing or not, and within hours were being sold online for astonishing markups.

The blue, yellow and red shoes were launched in stores overseas this April, and proved far more popular than anyone predicted.

Clever shoppers are cashing in on the wild popularity of the new trainers, selling them for as much as €450 online.
