Irish star Niamh Algar joins screen legend Charlotte Rampling in upcoming drama

Irish star Niamh Algar is to join screen legend Charlotte Rampling in a new movie about two troubled women whose lives collide.

In Mooring, Niamh, 28, plays single mum Megan who, with her young son Charlie, is trying to escape the hard life of river nomads when their barge runs aground on land owned by Eve Hertford [Rampling].

The older woman is hidden away in her family home, estranged from her son John. The two mothers are forced into each other’s lives with dramatic consequences.

Mooring marks the directorial debut of Last of the Mohicans star Jodhi May. who said: “It’s great to be working with a brilliant team of women, on a powerful drama about the choices mothers have to make.

“It’s a moving screenplay about connection and coming together; a story of survival that feels very relevant at this moment in time.”

Algar’s star is rising fast after rave reviews for her role in Channel 4’s The Virtues in which she played a woman desperate to get back the son she was forced to give up at 15 by a staunchly Catholic mother.

She also stars in an upcoming Guy Ritchie movie, Cash Truck, with action star Jason Statham.

She was seen recently in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi drama Raised by Wolves.
