Irish sports stars join thousands at sunrise to support Darkness into Light

Irish sportspeople have joined thousands across the country for the Pieta House Sunrise Appeal this morning.

Darkness into Light was scheduled to take place across five continents and more than 250,000 people would have walked against suicide and self-harm.

Instead, Pieta and Electric Ireland asked people to share their sunrise moment on social media with the hashtag #DIL2020.

And the world of sport are playing their part, with stars from different corners of Irish sport joining thousands at sunrise.

From the Ireland legend Shane Byrne to Mayo GAA icon Conor Mortimer, sports stars woke up early to help the cause.

Over €1.5m has been raised for Pieta House by viewers of RTÉ's The Late Late Show. It included a €100,000 donation from Electric Ireland.

Last night’s Late Late Show supported the drive, helping to ensure that Pieta generates the attention and funds it needs to carry out its life-saving work.
