Irish social welfare payments delayed over processing issue with Bank of Ireland

Social welfare recipients with Bank of Ireland may have experienced a delay in payments on Wednesday morning.

Members of the bank were out of pocket as there was a delay with processing payments.

A Bank of Ireland statement said: "We are aware of a delay with payments processing this morning.

"We are working to apply these to accounts and would like to apologise for any inconvenience."

Customers also experienced delays on Tuesday morning, which also affected those receiving social welfare.

The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection said it was aware of the issue on both days.

A tweet from the Department said: "We are aware of an issue with payments into Bank of Ireland customer accounts again this morning (similar to yesterday morning), including Social Welfare payments.

"We will share updates and more information with you as soon as we have it."

The issue was resolved, however, before noon on Wednesday as the bank apologised to its members.

A statement said: "We can confirm that payments are now being processed and are posting to customer’s accounts. We would like to apologise again for any inconvenience."

The Department later confirmed that all social welfare payments have been paid into customers accounts.

It said: "Bank of Ireland have confirmed that all payments have been credited to their customers' accounts, including Social Welfare payments."
