Irish social media users unite in annoyance over one major 'wet pubs' talking point

Irish social media users have united in annoyance over one major 'wet pubs' talking point.

With a date agreed by Cabinet this morning it is hoped by many that this will be the end of the use of the phrase "wet pubs".

The "wet pubs" phrase was coined last month to differentiate between pubs serving food and those who don't.

One person sick of the phrase posted on Twitter: "Really looking forward to never hearing the term “wet pubs” ever again."

Another said: "Can we dispense with the term ‘Wet Pubs’ now? Because it’s stupid and it makes me want to heave."

Kylie Jarrett posted: "Is it wrong to want the pubs to be re-opened just so you never have to hear the term "wet pubs" ever, ever again?"

Robert Daly added: "Please stop using the ridiculous term 'wet pubs' They are pubs. "

Another gave context on the term: "We prefer Traditional Pub ‘Wet pub’ is derived from an internal industry term ‘wet-led’ used to identify a pubs main product range (beverage).

"As media have tried to describe the differences in pubs for Covid regulations the ‘led’ has been dropped from ‘wet-led pubs’"

Aoife said: "Do we need a referendum to ban the term "wet pubs" or can it just be done through legislation, does anyone know?"

Ger doesn't like the sound of it: Who coined this disgusting term "wet pubs"? Also sounds unappealing in general. Why not call them "traditional pubs" or "real pubs"?"

Draft guidelines were issued to Vintner groups over the weekend, drawn up by Fáilte Ireland and are broadly similar to those issued to pubs which have been serving food.

But time slots of 105 minutes would not be a requirement where social distancing of two metres can be maintained.
