Irish side linked with January transfer window swoop for Bolton Wanderers striker Eoin Doyle

Irish side St Patrick's Athletic have been linked with a January transfer window swoop for Bolton Wanderers striker Eoin Doyle.

The 33-year-old forward is Wanderers' vice-captain and scored 19 goals for the University of Bolton Stadium club as Ian Evatt's side won promotion out of League Two.

Doyle has been a regular once again for Wanderers this season in League One and has found the back of the net seven times in all competitions so far, though only four of these have been in the league.

He is the club's first choice striker and signed a three-year contract at the club in the summer of 2020 which he is now halfway through and has 18 months left to run on it.

But reports have now emerged from Doyle's native Republic of Ireland that St Pat's are keen on Doyle.

According to the Irish Independent, St Pat's are eyeing up a move for Doyle in the upcoming window.

The Dublin-born striker has not made it a secret in the past of his wish to finish his career in the League of Ireland and come back home with his family.

The main stumbling blocks to the deal coming to fruition would be the amount of time left to run on Doyle's Bolton deal, as well as Wanderers finding a replacement.

The latter could be solved through the acquisition of Dion Charles from Accrington Stanley, which has been widely reported to be coming to fruition.

But the report from Ireland claims that St Pat's are determined to 'explore all options' in a bid to acquire Doyle's services.
