Irish shoppers warned to 'exercise caution' when using popular online site after multiple recalls

Irish consumers are being advised to be careful when shopping on a global site that has some 500 million members.

The warning has been issued in relation to the Wish platform which sells millions of items often at very low prices.

It comes after several product recalls have been issued this week after safety concerns were raised about some items sold on the site.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission released the advisory on Wednesday urging Irish shoppers to be cautious when purchasing goods from Wish.

The watchdog has already issued 13 Wish product recalls this month.

It said: "The CCPC is aware of safety concerns with multiple products listed on a website selling to Irish consumers called wish.com.

"These products are not in conformity with EU and Irish safety regulations and standards and have been purchased by consumers in Ireland.

"The CCPC has liaised with wish.com to remove the affected products from sale on its platform. Further details of the affected products are available on the CCPC’s product recall section of its website.

"The CCPC is continuing to liaise with the European Commission and our European counterparts about this matter. It is expected that further product recall notices relating to goods sold on wish.com will be listed in the coming weeks.

"The CCPC is advising consumers to exercise caution where they have bought goods from wish.com. Consumers can get information on product safety requirements by calling the CCPC consumer helpline on 01 402 5555 or visiting ccpc.ie."

Among the items already recalled this month are a children's thermometer, several children's costumes, LED lights, a baby pacifier and soother, toys and a USB charger.

Hundreds of Irish customers have purchased the affected products already and anyone who thinks they may have a recalled item is urged to discontinue using it and discard them immediately.

People who bought the impacted products from the Wish platform will be alerted by the company of this issue, the CPPC added.
