Irish scientist Yewande Biala set for stardom after landing spot on Love Island 2019

Meet Irish scientist Yewande Biala - who is set for stardom after landing a spot on the new Love Island series.

Not just a pretty face, the 23-year-old from Dublin has a masters degree from DIT and is the first Irish person to make the cut for the original line up.

The fifth series of the dating reality programme will also include Dancing with the Stars Ireland pro-dancer pro-dancer Curtis Pritchard.

Stunning Yewande has admitted she’s “never had a good date” and rates her looks “6.5 to a 7” out of 10.

Asked what makes her the perfect Love Islander, she said: “I’m a scientist, which is a unique job. I think people may be surprised.

"Every time I say that I’m a scientist, people are shocked. I think there are loads of intelligent people on reality television, last year we had Dr Alex and the year before we had Camilla Thurlow in the villa.”

Yewande said she is “easy to get along with” but talks too much, “I never stop talking and it gets me in trouble sometimes.

I’m a tad dramatic and I can be lazy.”

Biala has ruled out any ruthless antics to get a man in the villa.

“I am a terrible flirt but I’m such a girly girl and I can’t imagine stealing someone’s man in there. I don’t think I’d be that type but never say never.”

She added: “ I would expect someone to talk to me if they fancied the guy I was coupled up with. At least have the decency to come and speak to me about it.

The singleton, who graduated from Athlone Institute of Technology with a First Class Honours degree in science in 2016, admitted she has had her heartbroken by cheating boyfriends in the past.

“I’ve never cheated on anyone but I’ve been cheated on multiple times. I feel like I am less trusting as a result of that. I think I’ll definitely have my guard up.”

Previous Irish contestants, who were brought on later in the show, include fitness vlogger Rob Lipsett and Dublin model Shannen Reilly.

The pair jetted to the Love Island villa in 2017 to appear in the series where a host of young singles are looking for love on the island of Mallorca - and bank the €57,700 prize money.

Meanwhile, Irish TV star Laura Whitmore’s long term boyfriend Ian Stirling returns as the show narrator alongside host Caroline Flack.

Last year’s winners Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham split last April.
