Irish school's heartfelt tribute to 'model teacher' after sudden death

Tributes have been paid to a Northern Ireland primary school teacher who enriched the lives of many over the years.

Catherine McCann, who taught in Creggan Primary School, Co Antrim, for 17 years, passed away on May 10 - her death sparking hundreds of messages of sadness and fond memories.

An emotional tribute from Creggan Primary School described Miss McCann as "a model teacher in every way, always putting her pupils first", Belfast Live reports.

It read: "The Governors, staff, pupils and wider community of Creggan Primary School have been devastated this week at the sudden loss of our colleague and friend Catherine McCann.

"Miss McCann taught in our school for 17 years. An amazing friend to all the staff and parents and her displays of kindness to everyone she met came so naturally. She always arrived to school dressed in the latest fashion and then quickly pulled the trainers on her to deliver sports lessons in her lovely pink trainers.

"We cannot even begin to realise the void that is left in Creggan Primary School. As a school community we convey our sympathy to the McCann family. Fly high Miss McCann - thank you for all you did for us."

St. Brigid’s P.S. in Mayogall wrote: "The Governors, staff, parents and pupils send their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Miss McCann. Catherine McCann was a past pupil of St. Brigid’s and a student teacher who completed two teaching practices here.

"Catherine will be sorely missed for her warmth, her kindness and her sparkle."

Another tribute read: "Catherine. My lovely colleague and dearest friend. I have been blessed to have you by my side during the past seventeen years.

"You have been such a support and have enriched my life in so many ways.

"You taught us all how to try to be better teachers and human beings by your example. I will never forget you."
