Irish restaurant owner baffled as 'miserable' customer complains about too much laughter

The owner of the Chart House Restaurant in Dingle, Kerry has said that he received a recent complaint from a customer that there was "too much laughter" in the restaurant.

As of July 26, indoor dining is allowed for those who are fully vaccinated or who have recovered from Covid-19.

Under the regulations, anyone who has not been vaccinated or is without immunity will be forbidden from entering premises.

While there are some restrictions in place - proof of vaccination or immunity being the main ones - it goes without saying that there are no restrictions against laughing and enjoying yourself while inside.

In a post that was shared online, Jim McCarthy, owner of the Chart House Restaurant in Dingle said: "So tonight a guest complained, she was not happy there was too much laughter in the restaurant, I’m lost for words. Honestly, lost for word. After opening the restaurant in 1997, I really thought I had heard it all."

Later in the conversation, Mr McCarthy was asked "was she having a laugh?" to which he replied by saying: "No, she was miserable all night because I insisted she show me ID."

Displaying ID and proof of vaccination is required under the newly introduced legislation.

The restauranteur was also asked by another person, ''Wow! Unless it is a super annoying laugh?'

McCarthy answered by saying: "Not really, just people enjoying themselves."
