Irish restaurant 'disappointed' after 12 people no-show for table booking

A Cork restaurant have said they were left 'disappointed' after twelve people failed to turn up for a booking on Thursday.

Ferrit and Lee in Midleton have taken to social media to express their frustration at the incident.

They say it left them "all dressed up with nowhere to go" and say they're now considering the possibility of about taking deposits going forward.

The restaurant, which boasts a hugely popular gourmet menu, said it was a rule they held off on previously as they wanted to encourage people to do the right thing and cancel if they were feeling in any way ill - and don't want to punish them for having to take that step.

But now they're looking over their options having been left without the 12 heads whilst already operating at a reduced capacity due to outdoor rules.

The restaurant followed it up with an appreciation for the support they got, saying "Thanks for messages of support. We weren't really on the sympathy hunt, just trying our best to serve customers in the rain and disappointed with the lack of respect shown to the industry at the moment.

They posted about their frustrations on Twitter where they got a huge reaction, with local Cllr Liam Quaide saying the diners showed a "maddening lack of respect, especially at a time when businesses are trying to recover".

Another woman, Kate Bielinski, chipped in and bought herself a voucher online and promised to visit during the summer.

One person said: "The type of people that would do this are selfish and cruel. And industry on it's knees and they treat it with such contempt."

Another wrote: "For years I owned restaurants. Back then this was an issue. It was a loss of revenue for an evening.

"When you have larger groups you generally end up reworking the room to suit them & sometimes even lose capacity to facilitate the group."
