Irish rap artist highlights issues faced by women in new song Educate Our Sons

An Irish rap artist highlighting issues faced by women in Ireland in a new song has been viewed thousands of times online.

Craig Cooney, 27, from Straffan, Co Kildare, penned his song, titled Educate Our Sons, after a recent outpouring of stories of fear and abuse from women across the country following the tragic events surrounding the death of Sarah Everard in London.

Cooney, who is based in Dublin, said he hopes his song can raise awareness for women's issues.

He said: "All I'm seeing lately is women being attacked, abused and living in fear.

"I have very important women in my life and it's sad that this issue is all too common.

Craig Cooney said he wrote his song 'Educate our sons' to highlight the issues women face today (Craig Cooney Music)

"I wanted to use my platform to show women that I stand with them."

He said that some people are quick to judge rappers and that he wanted to change that perception.

"I want to change that perception and let people know it can be a positive for people to enjoy all whilst raising awareness and covering topics that need to be addressed," he said.

"I called this song 'Educate our sons', if we educate our sons we won't need to protect our daughters."

The video has been live since Friday and has been viewed by over 10,000 people with social media users praising the young artist for spreading the message.
