Irish Rail worker captures moment waves crash onto tracks at Irish coast

An unfortunate Irish Rail worker captures the moment waves crash onto train tracks on Tuesday.

The scary footage was taken at Seapoint in South Dublin and shows the worker walking along the tracks as the waves crash through a fence causing issues with signalling.

The worker is heard yelling out an expletive as the wave crashes on and catches him off guard.

The DART experienced delays of up to 25 minutes on Tuesday due to the frightening weather affecting the signalling.

Irish Rail told Dublin Live: "Water coming over sea wall at Seapoint affecting signalling, delays of up to 25 minutes to DART, but drains working well and with high tide at 14.12hrs, no worsening expected and line will remain open (you'd bleep too if the water hit you!)"

More bad weather is predicted to hit Ireland on Thursday evening as Storm Lorenzo makes its way over the country.

Orange and Yellow weather alerts have been issued across Ireland and people are urged to stay away from coastal roads with Met Eireann chief Evelyn Cusack saying it is possible that conditions along some exposed coasts could reach Status Red conditions.

She said during a briefing at the National Emergency Coordination Group: “We have a Status Orange issued for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick,

"But there is also a Status Yellow for the rest of the country - and there’s no guarantee that the most dangerous conditions will be confined to the West.

Last year Storm Ophelia suddenly veered away from Dublin and the east coast at the last moment.

"Storms like this can be unpredictable."

Lorenzo is still a Category 1 hurricane but will transition to a storm as it approaches Ireland and western Europe from the south west. The Azores are being lashed by winds of 140kph.

But even though Lorenzo will be a storm when it reaches us it will bring violent Storm force 11 gales.
