Irish Rail video shows annoying reason trains were delayed between Dublin and Cork

Passengers who were delayed going between Dublin and Cork today - this is why.

Irish Rail have released footage showing a truck bash through the barriers at a level crossing which resulted in big delays for passengers earlier today.

The crash mean there were delays of up to 35 minutes for the 2pm Heuston to Cork train, and the 3.25pm one back.

The incident happened in Emly, Tipperary, and is one of a number of incidents at level crossings and bridges in the last weeks.

Irish Rail said: "14.00 Heuston to Cork and 15.25 Cork to Heuston delayed 30-35 mins due to motorist damaging level crossing."

Incidents at level crossings have surged by 82% so far in 2019 with Sutton in north Dublin being the most affected area in Ireland.

So far this year there have been 52 incidents, a significant increase on this time last year.

In 2018, there were 81 incidents overall.
