Irish Rail update Covid 19 travel guidelines and how to keep safe

Iarnrod Eireann has published a handy guide on what passengers can expect when travelling by train with capacity on public transport operating at 100 percent.

Iarnrod Eireann has made changes to how they operate and have asked passengers to act in line with the current Government Covid guidelines.

All services are now operating at 100% capacity in line with the Government's plan for living with Covid with a dull schedule also in operation.

Customers should try and avoid peak times for travel unless the journey is for essential work, education, care provision or medical purposes.

Cleaning Trains

Trains are thoroughly and regularly cleaned as well as customer touchpoints on trains and in stations.

Staff will be wearing masks and PPE as well as being provided with hand sanitiser for their roles.

All 144 stations in the Iarnrod Eireann network have been provided with hand sanitiser units with up to 50 stations being equipped with vending machines for masks, hand sanitiser and gloves.

In the station

Masks must be worn when in the station at all times unless exempted under Government regulation.

If buying a ticket at the station, avoid paying with cash where possible and try to use ticket machines, leap cards or contactless payments.

Observe hand hygiene and use one of the provided hand sanitisation units.

Intercity and enterprise services must be pre-booked before travelling.

On the train

Masks must be worn on the train at all times unless there's proof of a medical exemption.

Try to avoid moving around the train as much as possible and respect other peoples personal space.

No alcohol is being served on any services.
