Irish Rail fine 45 passengers total of €2,250 for putting feet on seats

Lazy loungers stretching out on trains have been fined €2,250 in the last three years.

The Irish Mirror have discovered that Irish Rail is not joking with its famous ‘seats are not for feet’ notices.

They have been cracking down and catching and fining people for abusing the comforts offered on the train network.

The figures on fines collected were only available from October 2016, so it looks like the rail inspectors have been cranking up their enforcement since then.

The latest figures provided by Irish Rail also reveal that 45 Fixed Payment Notices for the offence have been issued since the start of last year.

Social Democrats co-leader, Catherine Murphy, obtained the figures and provided them to the Irish Mirror.

Dublin Bus also has the stern warnings against plopping your dirty feet on their cushioned seats on the buses on their fleet.

But it appears that they are more lenient than Irish Rail as they have issued no fines in the past few years according to the reply given to Ms Murphy.

That may of course change after they realise their sister company in the CIE Group is cracking down.
