Irish Rail delays as truck hits bridge in Dublin city centre during morning rush hour

Commuters were warned of long delays after a truck hit a bridge in Dublin city centre this morning during rush hour.

Irish Rail services between Pearse Station and Grand Canal were stopped for a time at around 8.40am as the vehicle became stuck under the bridge at South Lotts Road, Ringsend.

Dublin Live reports they were reopened again a short time later, with services running up to 15 minutes late as a result.

Road users have been told to take care in the area.

Irish Rail tweeted a picture of the truck and said: "Services stopped between Pearse & Grand canal Dock due to a truck stuck under a bridge at South Lotts update to follow."

They later added: "Update line has reopened between Pearse and Grand Canal Dock after truck hitting a bridge. Services running up to 15mins late as a result."

Gardai tweeted: "Long delays are expected on South Lotts Road, Ringsend following a road traffic collision."

In March, a truck smashed into a bridge in the capital's centre, causing train delays for hours.

Services between Tara Street and Connolly were suspended and gardai also closed off Amiens St and put diversions in place as the incident was cleared.

Footage later emerged showing the lorry hitting the bridge.
