Irish Rail confirms one service won't return on October 22 as restrictions ease

Irish Rail has confirmed that its beloved onboard catering service wont be returning in line with the major easing in restrictions coming on October 22.

A spokesperson confirmed to the Irish Mirror that given the guidelines issued by the Government in relation to the upcoming relaxing of measures, passengers are required to wear masks for the entire duration of their trip.

People will only be able to remove their masks on board if they need to take medication.

They explained: "While many Covid-19 restrictions are being removed on October 22, it will remain mandatory for customers to wear face coverings on public transport.

"The Government regulation covering this does not provide for face coverings to be removed for eating and drinking on public transport (it only provides for the taking of medication).

"As a result, catering on board will remain suspended until further notice, in line with this regulation."

This means despite a vast return to normal life, customers won't be able to grab a cuppa on board for quite some time to come.

From Friday, October 22, the requirement to ensure physical distance will be gone as well as the rule of wearing masks outdoors and in indoor private settings.

The limit on the number of people allowed to attend indoor and outdoor events and activities will be dropped as well as the restrictions on religious or civil ceremonies.

The number of people allowed to meet in private homes and gardens will also be unlimited as the remaining restrictions ease.

People will no longer need certification of vaccination, immunity, or testing as a condition for gaining access to any activities or events, with the exception of international travel.

Finally, restrictions on high-risk activities, like nightclubs, will be dropped.

While the majority of measures ease, the only measures that will remain in place are the need to self isolate if you develop any known symptoms associated with Covid-19, and masks must still be worn in healthcare settings, indoor retail, and on public transport.
