Irish Rail CCTV footage shows dangerous near miss moments as passengers urged to stay away from train tracks

CCTV footage shows the moment a number of Irish Rail passengers took their lives into their own hands crossing train tracks.

One woman is even seen narrowly escaping serious injury from a passing train after sitting with her legs dangling over the platform's edge.

The compilation of dangerous moments was posted online by Irish Rail to deter passengers from taking similar risks future.

Irish Rail said: "One trip, one fall, one result. Stay off the tracks. Stay away from platform edges."

The video shows a number of people jumping down from the platform edge on to the track to get across or walking across the tracks from the edge of the platform.

And a number of the clips show near misses where passengers were moments away from the path of passing trains.

Aidan Martin, a Dart driver for the rail service, described the moment a group of children walked out in front of his train.

He said: "Over the years driving I've seen people do silly things like walking and crossing the tracks in front of or behind trains and in stations.

"For a driver, this can become a heart-stopping moment.

"One incident was a group of children who walked out from behind a train that was stopped on the opposite platform as I was stopping my train in the same station,

"But I had to break much earlier as they jumped down from the other platform behind the other train and stepped out in front of mine.

"I always think of that day and how different it could have turned out if I hadn't seen them and stopped in time."
