Irish punter lands almost €50,000 thanks to last minute Southampton goal

One lucky Irish punter will be singing Stuart Armstrong's praises after his last minute goal landed him an eye-watering sum over the weekend.

The bet, placed at a Ladbrokes store in Wicklow, saw the punter turn €50 into almost €50,000 in a twelve-fold accumulator on the weekend's English football action.

And amid all the unlikely selections, the shortest price was for there to be more than 1.5 goals scored in Southampton's clash with Aston Villa at 1/5.

And after Shane Long's early goal, the punter was left to sweat as the Saints left it until the 95th minute to double their lead and see the wager fall in the favour of the gambler.

And the bet paid off some €49,192.97 after an odds boost added almost €11,000 to the winning sum to make it all the better for the Wicklow punter.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “This punter has predicted the outcome of 12 football matches which is just incredible. Funnily enough it was the shortest-priced selection that gave him the most to worry about, with 1/5 being the odds on offer for two or more goals in the Saints v Villa game.

"However, Stuart Armstrong saved the day to ensure our plucky punter turned €50 into a life-changing €50,000."
