Irish punter bags incredible €578k from €20 bet at Cheltenham Festival

An Irish punter is over half a million euro richer this evening after Henry de Bromhead's Gold Cup victory landed them €575k from a €20 bet.

The lucky punter placed a fourfold accumulator months before the festival in Paddy Power's Shannon branch in December, and his €20 stake returned exactly €578,340

He backed Honeysuckle for the Champion Hurdle at 16/1, Bob Olinger in the Ballymore at 20/1, Put The Kettle On in the Champion Chase at 8/1 and Minella Indo in the Cheltenham Gold Cup at 8/1.

After victories on each of the opening three days, the punter was celebrating a massive pay day today as de Bromhead's Minella Indo stormed to Gold Cup victory.

A spokesperson for Paddy Power said: "There will be a socially distanced celebration somewhere in Shannon tonight courtesy of an incredible bet placed more than three months ago.

"After a miserable 2020 I could only think about avoiding Zoom calls and burning banana bread, let alone having the foresight to pull off a life-changing Cheltenham punt.

"You have to take your hat off. It's a sublime punt and tops off a great week for Irish punters."
