Irish pubs update: New indoor dining date hinted by Minister Eamon Ryan

Indoor dining may not return until August, Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has said.

Mr Ryan said he expects digital travel certificates to go ahead on July 19 but it might be a while until the rest of the restrictions are eased.

Speaking before the Cabinet meeting this morning, he also said that the government will be looking at health data from the UK before making any decisions.

He said: "We’re going to get everyone vaccinated, back dining, able to socialise – it will just take a bit of time."

He said there would be no huge changes and restrictions will be eased "step-by-step".

Following a spate of Covid case jumps over the last few days, there are growing fears in the Government that Ireland will experience highs of 1,000 cases a day this month.

The Cabinet fears that the Delta variant of the virus could cause a massive jump in those contracting Covid with the large figures predicted for the same date that international travel and indoor dining is set to resume.
