Irish pubs update: Indoor dining dates, rules and regulations 'wanted' by Government

Government and restaurant officials are meeting this week ahead of the expected return of indoor dining currently set for next Monday.

However, there is still a number of rules and regulations that the Government and Restaurant officials will have to work out over the coming days.

Those who are fully vaccinated and those who have recovered from Covid-19 in the last six months will be allowed to drink and eat indoors.

But there are still areas of concern that have yet to be ironed out.

One of the main areas of frustration between the two parties is the potential introduction of a time limit on customers in indoor dining settings.

Last week, it was suggested that the time limit idea was to be scrapped, but it now appears that the Government want it back on the table for any future reopening.

When indoor dining was previously reopened in Summer 2020, there was a time limit of 115 minutes if the tables were spaced just one metre apart - If they are two or more apart then no time limit was in place.

However, with the transmissibility of the Delta variant, it's yet to be confirmed whether spreading the tables further apart will get rid of the expected time limit.

Social distancing and how best to ventilate indoor settings are also on the agenda.

The major difference between now and Summer is that over 60% of the adult population, including the most vulnerable, are fully vaccinated against Covid.

The point at which a potential customer must present their vaccine certificate to gain access to the restaurant/bar is still up for debate.

Adrian Cummins, Chief Executive of Restaurant Associations of Ireland wants some people to be allowed to present their pass at the point of sale.

However, it's believed Government want these passes to be presented to staff before entering the premises.
