Irish pubs update: Iconic Dublin city boozer O'Donoghues has an EXACT replica in Moscow - the only difference is it's OPEN

A dedicated Dublin pub lover has created an exact replica of an iconic city boozer in Russia.

The first thing Irish people look for when they travel abroad is the local Irish watering hole but one enthusiast took that to a whole other level.

Home to one of the nicest pints of Guinness in Dublin and a notorious spot for a trad session, we thought O'Donoghue's Bar was one of a kind.

But journalist Bryan MacDonald, who works in Russia, shared his discovery of the Merrion Row's twinned bar on social media.

Tweeting from Russia, with love, he said: "Somebody in Moscow has built a replica of iconic Dublin pub @ODonoghues15.

"What's more, unlike the 'real' version, it's open, has customers in it, and is selling pints."

MacDonald showed off his freshly pulled pint of Guinness and praised the Sputnik vaccine, which allowed Russia to slowly open up, saying, "God bless @sputnikvaccine. And all who sail in her".

Dubliners legend Ronnie Drew plays a tune for then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in Dublin's famous music pub O'Donoghues back in 1999 (PA)

He said: "The vaccine is the reason Russia has been able to avoid a full lockdown. In fact, restrictions were eased further, late last week.

"Notable that numbers of positive Covid tests are dropping like a stone last week or two."

And what's even better, you'll get change out of your fiver because a pint of porter in the Russian replica costs €4.80.

O'Donoghues - the Dublin pub - soon got word of their Russian twin, reposting the photos with the caption: "O'Donoghue's on tour? #samesamebutdifferent."

The iconic Dublin pub is a historically significant drinking establishment. It has been closed for many months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But according to one onlooker, the Russian O'Donoghue's needs a bit of Luke Kelly and Raglan Road in order to keep up with the Dublin pub.

The original pub is on Merrion Row in the south inner city, just off Baggot Street and a stone's throw from the Dail.

Hopefully it can join its doppelgänger and reopen soon, once the COVID cases in Ireland drop.
