Irish pubs update as Dublin’s best bar announced in quirky Instagram competition

Dublin’s best pub has been announced in a quirky Instagram competition that took place over the past month.

Alternative Dublin is an artist collective hosting events, tours and parties. They decided to run a contest on Instagram to discover which pub was the best in the Irish capital.

Over 100 pubs were nominated and 64 different bars went through the competition in the knockout stages.

And this week it was revealed that Grogan's Castle Lounge came out on top with 4,840 total votes.

Toners came in second place with the runners up including: The Fourth Corner, The Bar With No Name, Workmans, Pantibar, Cassidys and Doyles Intown.

Alternative Dublin previously said: “It’s been a hard year for the watering holes in Dublin over the past year….

“As restrictions ease and more and more people are starting to socialize again we want to encourage people to visit bars in Dublin.

“We’ve started an Instagram campaign to get people back out into our bars, pubs and restaurants.

“Over the past three weeks we’ve asked dozens of people for their nominations for Dublin’s Best Bar. We’ve gotten over 115 entries into Dublin’s best bar and we are running a live poll to find out our followers' favourites.”

Alternative Dublin hosts events, tours and parties and they show people parts of the city that don't make it onto the postcards.

The group were made for those who don’t like to follow the crowd. They encourage people to delve a little deeper into the city and enjoy unusual nights out, offbeat activities and quirky tours of the capital, and beyond.

Located in the heart of Temple Bar in Dublin’s City Centre, their mission is to inspire curiosity and introduce a lesser-travelled side of Dublin, away from the tourist trail.

From walking tours about murderers and graverobbers, to neon nude life drawing classes, to gin-filled jewellery-making, they offer people access to some of the rarest and most unique experiences in the country.

They host over 14 different events and tours in Dublin and their team of “craic monsters” consists of artists, musicians, promoters, photographers and larger than life personalities.
