Irish pubs scandal: 'Inappropriate' deleted tweet apology issued by restaurant CEO Adrian Cummins

The CEO of the Restaurants Association of Ireland has apologised for an inappropriate tweet he sent about International Women's Day nine years ago.

Adrian Cummins tweeted about an 'ironing and cooking day' back in 2012 in a tweet which has since been deleted.

He tweeted at the time: “Is today international ironing and cooking day? Sorry I was corrected it’s international women’s day.”

He apologised for the "ill-judged" tweet which was taken down this week and said he was sorry for any hurt caused.

The tweet was published on his own personal Twitter account which he has used for working purposes over the last number of years as part of his job for the lobby group.

While June 7 and into July may have the high profile lifting of restrictions, there's still an entire sector that's about to open on June 2.

May 10 saw all non-essential retail come back to life but today will focus on hotels and B&Bs opening their doors for the first time in months.

However, there are some exceptions to hotels and other accommodation services reopening.

You won't be able to just saunter down to your local hotel to enjoy a lovely pint.

Hotel services such as indoor dining, leisure facilities and bar services are to be restricted to just hotel guests and residents only.

As long as the rollout of the vaccine continues to gather pace, the government is confident that further easing can continue in the weeks after June 2 as planned.

The easing will be split into a number of different dates starting with June 2, followed a week later by further easing on June 7 and again on July 5.

Pub and restaurants had demanded that cabinet remove the time limit on pubs and restaurants serving customers indoors as well as letting them open the same time as hotels and B&Bs.

Drink and grub will be allowed inside from July 5 but people are only allowed wait for 105 minutes inside if they are in a space where customers are less than two metres apart.

But publicans and restaurant owners able to serve with a two metre distance inside or serving outside will not have a countdown clock on their tables.
