Eleven pubs were sold in Dublin in 2020 as publicans look to hopefully a better year for trade compared to the annus horribilis that was the last 12 months.
A report from Drinks Industry Ireland outlines that six of the 11 were sold in the first quarter of last year.
As the year and the global pandemic raged on however, the sale of pubs became less and less with just three sold in the second quarter and one each in the third and fourth quarter.
These included Grainger's on Meath Street;Murray's in Kilmainham; The Sackville Lounge and Madigan's of Abbey Street Lower - both were part of a larger property acquisition.
The Magic Carpet in Cornelscourt; The Old Storehouse in Temple Bar and The Black Forge Inn in Drimnagh, now under the ownership of Conor McGregor, were also on the list.
Finishing off the newly sold watering holes are Ruin Bar on Townsend Street; The Dark Horse in Blackrock, The Queen's in Dalkey and JK Stoutman's on James Street.
The news comes on the same day that an iconic Dublin pub will be dragged down, making way for 'shoebox' co-living apartments.
Dublin City Council has given the green light to demolish the popular pub, Kiely’s in Donnybrook, to make way for the shared accommodation scheme.
Westridge Real Estate, site owners, confirmed their application for permission to demolish the existing building, despite around 115 objections being lodged against the proposal.
Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Hazel Chu (Green Party), Chris Andrews TD (SF), Senator Ivana Bacik (Lab) and Cllr Dermot Lacey (Lab) have previously objected against the six-storey plan.
