Irish pubs latest with major change to rules as indoor dining returns

Pubs and restaurants are set to welcome customers to dine in as indoor hospitality returns today.

People who are fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 will be allowed to eat and drink indoors.

However, the government has put a number of rules in place for restaurants, cafes, and pubs.

One of these being hospitality businesses will be expected to keep a record of customers' vaccine details or immunity status on one sheet of paper.

And it was believed that a second sheet would be kept with the names and phone numbers of all customers who dined indoors.

However, a major change was announced early this morning by the CEO of Restaurants Ireland, Adrian Cummins.

He said that contact tracing will only be required for the lead person at the table and for solo guests.

Customers will be asked to present their Covid Cert which will be scanned to check if they are fully vaccinated or immunised at the venues.

They can also show their Digital Covid cert and HSE vaccination cards but will need to have photo identification for proof.

Adrian Cummins said on Twitter: "UPDATE: More changes to @Failte_Ireland guidelines last night.

"Contract tracing is now only required for the lead person at a table and for solo guests

"Final copy of the regulations now published the updated guidelines for indoor hospitality."

A maximum of six people aged 13 or over are allowed to sit together not including other children that might be with them aged 12 or younger, in that situation a maximum of 15 are allowed at any one table.

Masks must be worn at all times unless customers are sitting at their table. It could also be at the discretion of individual businesses whether they allow children in or not.

It will be table service only and customers won't be able to order, eat or drink at the bar. Every entrance point will also be managed by a staff member.
