Irish pubs latest on reopening timeline as one year marked since they were forced to close

It has been one year since pubs shut their doors for the first time as the coronavirus pandemic gripped the world.

As St Patrick's Day 2020 loomed on Ireland, pubs across the country were forced to close their doors and stop trading on one of the busiest weeks of the year.

Today they all remain closed across the country with those who do not serve food, known as "wet pubs", having had their business closed for more then 365 days.

Owners, landlords, staff and customers have all been hard hit by the closures with fears that many will never open their doors again as losses mount and the chances of opening seem further away than ever.

With the long-awaited April 5 lifting of restrictions looming, we take a look at when they could reopen and what to expect.

When will Irish pubs reopen?

Unfortunately, it looks like the Government has no plans to bring hospitality back in the first wave of restrictions lifting on April 5.

At the moment they are taking a very cautious approach and at the best chance say we can expect hospitality re-opening mid Summer.

That means we probably can't expect anything until June or July.

What can we expect?

Thankfully, the €9 "substantial" meal has been eliminated from the discussion. A bone of contention for many it's now been put aside.

Depending on the cases and COVID-19 situation in hospitals it could happened in a phased basis where those that serve food or have outside seating open up first.

Whatever happens, expect guidelines such as social distancing and masks when moving about to be in place.
