Irish Pubs: Gardai find 15 licensed premises in breach of guidelines as part of Operation Navigation

A total of 15 pubs were found to be in breach of COVID-19 guidelines by gardai.

The figures come as part of Operation Navigation which sees gardai conduct thousands of checks on licensed premises throughout the country.

15 potential breach incidents were found by gardai from September 14 to September 20 and files will now be prepared for the DPP in each of these cases.

The cumulative total of potential breach incidents since Operation Navigation began is now 232.

However, gardai have said that there is a "vast majority" of pubs continue to comply with guidlines.

Deputy Commissioner, Policing and Security, John Twomey said: "There continues to be a very high level of compliance among licensed premises. This is welcome. However, some licensed premises are risking the health of their employees, customers and local communities.

"We are at a critical point in tackling the spread of COVID-19 and everyone must take personal responsibility to avoid situations that are a risk to themselves, their family and their friends.”

Gardai also conducted over 500 checkpoints over weekend in Dublin and surrounding counties under Operation Fanacht.

Operation Fanacht is focused on supporting public compliance with public health measures following the announcement by An Taoiseach last week that Dublin is now at level 3 of the Government’s Plan for Living with COVID-19.
