Irish public urged to tip a little extra this Christmas to reward hard-working staff in key sectors

A campaign has been launched in Ireland to encourage people to tip more this Christmas.

It has been a tough two years for those working in the hospitality industry, and with new restrictions in force, many are left without work or have minimal hours.

Today, a new campaign, ‘Tip Our Team’, has been launched by Strikepay to encourage customers to reward hard-working staff in key sectors that continue to be hit by the pandemic.

The campaign is asking the public that go out for a meal, get their hair done, or take a taxi journey to tip a little more in view of the impact of Covid-19.

A number of associations are backing the campaign including the Restaurants Association of Ireland and the Hair and Beauty Industry Confederation.

Speaking about the benefit of this campaign, Kate Verling, owner of Mink Foot and Nail Spa, located in Dublin, said this will bring her staff “a great boost.”

“Staff in the beauty sector have had it tough this year with all of the closures and restrictions,” she explained.

“It’s been hard for all of us, and Strikepay’s Tip Our Team campaign is a great boost to morale.

“We have been working with Strikepay for a while now and it gives our customers an effortless and contactless way to leave a tip for our team.

“It has elevated our offering, particularly as we are operating as a cash-free business post-Covid.”

Strikepay’s Head of Business Development, Gail Kaneswaran, added; ‘’ Many in the personal services sector like restaurant staff and hairdressers have been closed for a very long time during the lockdowns and this had had a huge impact, not just on their incomes, but their personal wellbeing.

“As Christmas is a time for giving the Tip Our Team campaign, apart from giving a tip, it creates a moment to say thank you for your hard work. As part of our campaign, we are also giving staff in each business which signs up a chance to win €1,000 prize.’’
