Irish public answer call from tragic dad-of-three Andrew McGinley and send hundreds of letters during COVID-19 lockdown

The Irish public have answered the call of tragic dad Andrew McGinley, who received two massive boxes of post this morning after appealing for letters to help him through his isolation.

The Newcastle dad lost his three children in devastating circumstances in January of this year.

The bodies of young Conor, nine, Darragh, seven, and Carla McGinley, three, were discovered at their home.

Last month, Andrew started up Conor's Clips on social media - a promise he made to his son at their funeral - where he shares pictures and memories of his three kids.

And on Friday he appealed to the people of Ireland to help him through his personal struggle during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Andrew said: "I'm looking for a favour. I'm struggling with isolation like you all but really missing the company.

"I was also enjoying most of the letters that I received so I have a request. Can you write to me?

"If you feel like using one of your An Post postcards then great. Letters welcome."

And the people answered his request this morning as two massive boxes of letters and postcards arrived at Andrew's door.

The strongest of community spirits was on show as hundreds of letters arrived at Parson's Court in Newcastle this morning.

"I possibly should have thought this through?" he jokingly wrote this morning.

"Thank you all."
