Irish pub worker slams 'runners' who fled bar without paying for big bill

A bartender in a Dublin bar took to social media to call out “runners” who dash out the door without paying for their drinks.

The angry worker of the unnamed pub posted on Reddit to say that three teenagers ruined his day which was “going perfectly” up until then.

They said: "Everything was running smoothly.. and of course the worst way to end it off is when three d******d teenagers order €50 worth of drinks and run off.

“Yes it’s my fault,” the original poster said three times, but explained that while they felt guilty he was "bitter."

They added: “If any of the group that ordered 6 Jameson’s and 4 ginger ales is reading this, go f**k yourselves."

Others chimed in to say that the experience is apparently very common, where polite customers will make a run for it, leaving the worker to guiltily sort the situation.

“Same thing happened to me over the summer in a restaurant,” one commenter said.

The customers “had up and left and not paid for their drinks either. Came out of the staff tips, was sickened.”

Another recalled their time working in a hotel when they “brought the last drinks down and was waiting for him to come back to pay up, a few minutes later realised he wasn't coming back.”

That commenter “ended up calling the manager who took his side and comp'd them the round and gave me a bollocking.”

Another was baffled as to why workers were feeling guilty, “Quite frankly what were you meant to do? Jump in front of the car while they are driving off?,” he asked one user.

According to others on the post, the drinkers who don’t pay usually have their bill settled by either the staff tips or from the employee's paycheck - leaving staff in limbo as to whether to attempt to run after them or not.

One commenter said that when confronted at a robbery they had to make the decision not to challenge the thieves, “not a f**king chance am I going to try and stop them.”
