Irish pub puts Dublin prices to shame with cheap pints that could be best in Ireland

A pub in the west of Ireland has been praised for their pint prices as many complain about the cost of a drink in Dublin.

Top Irish comedian Hector shared a receipt showing a pint of Guinness for just €3.90 in Zetland House Hotel in Connemara, Co Galway.

This was compared to pints of the black stuff costing €8.10 in Temple Bar this week.

The popular figure tweeted: "Meanwhile 218kms across the country."

Expensive pints in Dublin aren't the case everywhere however, we went around Dublin city to see if we could find a pint of Guinness for less than €5 - and we were stunned with some of the cheap options.

It comes as consumer spending in pubs during the month of February rose 49% with an average total spend of €1.6million a day, new figures reveal.

After two long years of restrictions, the hospitality sector has returned to full capacity and the people of Ireland have not disappointed in terms of support.

While Dublin had the highest daily spend at €500,000, Donegal consumers recorded the biggest increase in pub spending, up 60% from January, closely followed by Mayo (+57%) and Sligo (+57%). When broken down by age, those between 25 and 34 recorded the biggest spending increase nationally.

The figures released by AIB compiled over one million card transactions by Irish consumers over the month of February.

Overall, spending last month was up 7% compared to January, with contactless and digital wallet payments up 11% and 14% respectively. On average, total consumer spending was €78 million a day throughout the month.
