Irish pub decision: Earliest dates for beer gardens as Taoiseach to announce summer plan

The country is waiting with bated breathe as Taoiseach Micheal Martin is set to address the nation announcing plans to lift Covid-19 restrictions.

Last night there was more optimistic news emerging that the Government was likely to plough ahead with plans to ease restrictions even earlier than thought.

May 10 has emerged as a new key date for the lifting of restrictions with intercounty travel set to return on that date coinciding with the return of hairdressers, barbers and other personal services.

Click and collect services are also likely to return while people are set to be offered more freedoms with vaccinated households to be allowed to meet with another household indoor.

Meanwhile 50 people are set to be allowed at funerals and wedding services, but only 6 can come to the afters of the wedding.

Non-essential retail is likely to return in full by May 17.

However one of the most highly anticipated announcements will be in relation to pubs and bars.

The Government has remained very tight lipped around the hospitality sector, key dates began to emerge last night as Micheal Martin aims to lay out a comprehensive plan for the summer.

While it has yet to be confirmed reports last night suggested that people across Ireland will be permitted to return to beer gardens as early as June 7, with the return of outdoor pubs and dining earmarked for that date.

Separately on June 2, hotels and B&Bs are expected to reopen their doors.

No fixed date for indoor dining has been provided but July has been mentioned.

It's expected that gyms will be allowed to re-open for single-person training on June 7.
