Irish prison drug dealers cashing in on jail lockdown by jacking up prices

Prison drug dealers are cashing in on the jail lockdown by charging hard-up addicts extortionate prices for their fix, the Irish Sunday Mirror has learned.

With physical visits curtailed, the only way for pushers to get their hands-on gear is to have it thrown over perimeter walls.

Therefore, dealers have been able to charge more than double the price in some cases for cocaine, heroin and pills.

A source told the Irish Sunday Mirror inmates selling drugs within the prisons are making huge money at the moment.

They said: “Since the lockdown in the prisons it has become harder to get drugs into the jail.

“The only real way is over the perimeter walls as people can’t smuggle them in during visits.

“Due to this the price of drugs being sold has jumped significantly.

“Cocaine, heroin and pills are most popular and can go for a lot more than they used to, even at the start of the year.

“Inmates who use have been telling others they will hit the roof if restrictions aren’t lifted soon.

“At the moment there is talk one 15-minute physical visit will be allowed every two weeks but that could change.

‘If it does there will be a lot of tension that will
no doubt spill over.”
