Irish player scoops huge €500,000 jackpot in Euromillions as lotto reaches record-breaking milestone

An Irish punter has won a cool €500,000 in tonight's Euromillions Plus draw – a massive scoop for the lucky player.

The winning ticket was sold in Wexford, on a night that saw punters all over Europe praying they'd come away with an extraordinary €200 million prize.

While there was no winner in the main draw – which would have blown every other Euromillions record out of the water – there were a number of winners in Ireland.

In total, over 103,000 players won prizes here, and while most were likely small fry, for one roller there was a big, big payoff tonight.

The €500,000 would make a nice addition to any bank account, especially ahead of the Christmas period.

The winning numbers were 1, 3, 37, 41 and 46.

And on top of the biggest Irish prize, there will also be quite a number of other happy players in Ireland tonight, with 122 winners of the €2,00 prize.

It's not millions, but not many of us would say no to a €2,000 bonus for the month of December.

Tonight's Euromillions win comes after a Cork player won almost €11 million in the National Lottery earlier this week.

The shop that sold Wednesday night's €10.7 million jackpot ticket was subsequently revealed as Spar in Mount Oval, Rochestown, Co. Cork.

The owner of the store is Cork native Shane Cantillon, who runs the local store with the help of his brother Mark, his father Greg and an additional 30 local staff members.

“Please tell me you’re calling to let me know I’ve sold the winning ticket," were the first words out of Mr Cantillon's mouth when the National Lottery called him on Thursday.

Speaking after the big news, the overjoyed owner said: "My phone lit up last night and to my surprise, the National Lottery number came up. I was aware the winning Lotto ticket was won in Cork so I knew it could only be one thing – I must have sold the winning ticket.
