Irish people warned not to fall for scam Tesco draw phishing text

Tesco have warned Irish people not to fall for a scam text pretending to be from the supermarket.

The message claims that a package has been won as part of a draw and asks the receiver to click a link within it.

A number of concerned customers contacted the supermarket to ask them whether the message is legitimate, Cork Beo reports.

Tesco have advised that the text is not genuine and anyone who receives it should delete it immediately.

And local Cork councillor Danielle Twomey advised her constituents to be wary of the text that has been circulating around the country and also in the United Kingdom.

The hyperlink is believed to bring you to a scam website which asks for personal information as well as bank details in order to be charged a small delivery fee but customers are urged not to engage with the message or offer up any bank details.

Tesco have responded to a number of concerned customers' enquiries about the legitimacy of the message by confirming that it has nothing to do with the supermarket.

Several tweets to Tesco's customer service team have resulted in responses which say that "It looks like you have received a phishing text."

A statement from Tesco continued: "May I suggest you take a screen shot of the text and send an e-mail to phishing@uk.tesco.com, once you've done that, please delete the text and do not respond to it."
