Irish people vote for the country's 'most annoying accent' - and everyone agrees on one area

For a country with such a mixed bag of different accents, it doesn’t seem to be hard for Irish people to choose which accent is the worst.

Users of the Ireland subreddit have been voicing their opinions on which is the “Most annoying accent in Ireland” and the Leinster counties are absolutely bottom of the pile.

Plenty of Reddit users chimed in to vote Louth as the most annoying, with the Drogheda drawl seeming to take the top spot for the county, next to neighbours Ardee and Dundalk.

In a single comment, one user summed up the opinions of many - “Drawwwdaaa.”

Plenty more agreed that the South Dublin accent grinded their gears, or more specifically the “D4 fake yank one.”

One user said: “So many students on my campus have this accent. I sometimes find it very difficult to discern if they are in fact Irish or American. Its really gotten out of hand!”

While another chimed in saying “This is what happens when a generation grow up with s**t American reality tv and influencers on social media.”

And another accent that got slammed for its Americanised twang was “the fake Californian accent that seems to have totally permeated the millennial population of Galway.”

Another commented, “It has to be the D4 accent. I just can’t take it seriously”

Dublin didn’t get away with just its southsider accent either, with plenty agreeing with one user who said “The scrotey Dub accent makes me want to vomit.”

While others defended the beloved Dublin inflection. “I love a dirty dub accent,” said one.

The midlands didn’t escape either with others agreeing with one user who said the midlands accents, particularly Tipperary were “grating.”

It seems that plenty of Irish areas got a slagging. From Cavan to Cork, plenty of accents get on people’s nerves.

But one user summed it up perfectly - the most annoying accents are those that "require subtitles if you're not from the surrounding 50 Kilometers.”
