Irish people outraged over 'insane' price of 'luxury porridge' at Dublin restaurant

Irish people have been left shocked after discovering the price being charged for porridge at one Dublin cafe.

The extraordinary price tag for the very ordinary dish has been described as "insanity" by some with others declaring "the boom is back".

An unnamed restaurant is charging €14.50 for 'luxury porridge', with the meal accompanied by a bottled juice or hot drink.

The porridge is made with milk or water and served with "mixed fresh fruits, nuts and honey".

People were left questioning who would pay such a high price for the breakfast meal, with others labelling the idea of luxury porridge as an "oxymoron".

An anonymous Irishman took to Reddit to share his shock at the price being charged by the cafe.

He wrote: "Went for breakfast this morning in Dublin City Centre and the absolute grifters are trying to charge 14.5€ for porridge."

People were outraged at the "ridiculous" price tag of the less than luxurious dish in the city centre.

One person said: "Gotta aim high at that price. Should be Artisan porridge."

A second wrote: "Yeah would have at least called it 'oatmeal' to make it sound exotic."

A third questioned: "Is there gold leaf in it? The porridge gets into your blood faster that way."

Another person said: "Their Instagram shows the same menu from a year ago and it was listed as €10. Truly the boom time of porridge we're living in."

Someone else exclaimed: "Jesus Christ, prices are seriously getting ridiculous. What kind of fool is paying 14 quid for porridge?!"

One Reddit user commented: "I might start adding the word luxury before I sell anything and just double the price. The boom is back."

A second said: "That is insanity. The concerning thing is that there's definitely a demographic willing to spend that for a bowl of porridge. The mind broggles."

A third added: "The term 'luxury porridge' is such an oxymoron. There's nothing luxurious about it, and that's why we like it! I choose porridge specifically for it's misery. It's back to basics. It's winter-time back in the 80's. It's 'Please sir, can I have some more?'. It's 'We're here eatin' porridge for breakfast, dinner & tea, and you have 28 pounds, 7 and 3 pence up the chimney?!"

While another said: "Porridge is so cheap and easy to make, surely no one would pay that price.

Someone else stated: "They must think they’re in an airport in Oslo or Geneva or somewhere."

While one other person said: "Luxury porridge is an oxymoron if ever I saw one, how ridiculous."
